Part 5
st-Francis pub, st-Francis in the woods
George Olderwood stared blankly at the piece of paper. He knew what was written on the paper.
"The shadow, the shadow, to hell with the shadow!" Annie walked away from the counter and sat beside her husband.
"Don't say that, isn't this bad enough?" she looked at her husband and pointed at the glass that was on the floor. "That window was only two weeks old."
George tore the piece of paper apart and small bits of it, fell on the ground, slowly they touched the thick, red carpet. "We still got our health, we should thank st-francis for that."
Her husband nodded and sighed. "Yes Annie, you're right." He stood up and kissed Annie. "I'll go and get the broom."
He walked out of the bar and went up the stairs which were behind a door at the far end of the pub. Annie wiped a small tear away. St-Francis in the woods was awakening, the few streets were quiet and for the local pub it was a rude awakening. The Shadow had this town in his iron grip, he could crush it. He wasn't going to do that, that wasn't entertaining enough.
The Johnson estate
Mack sat on his bed and thought about the encounter with Helena. He thought about Edward. Edward was the one who did the shopping. Was he ill? He thought about the car that returned from who knows where, Edward wasn't in it. Was he on vacation? He didn't see any bags. Why did Helena behave so strange? His stomach turned round. They couldn't...it would explain it, but why? He felt it was time to act he stood up and walked out of his room and down the stairs. Why would they kill Edward? He had to save her from her mother, but he didn't know how. He opened the frontdoor and walked towards the Gedde's. He didn't know how.
The Gedde estate
Helena threw up. She fell and held on to the rail. Her body wasn't used to have another personality. Helena whined softly
"Mother help me...mother."
Everything went dark and Helena almost let the rail go. It was clear again. She looked down the stairs who seemed to go down forever. In the hall downstairs a group of people was watching her, Helena could see through them. They laughed at her and disappeared. The rail seemed to wave gently. Helena tried to stand up. She slowly fell forward. Suddenly red dots replaced her eyes. Her hands went down and her body followed. She stood on her hands and made a somersault. She landed on her feet. She walked the last few steps down. A young body, new possibility's. She smiled.
In front of the Gedde estate
The man with the red eyebrows was a bit nervous, it was about to happen. He looked and saw that the boy approached the house.
The Gedde estate
The doorbell rang. Tetelo stood in the hall and looked at the door. Her eyes became dark red. She recognised the person, it was that annoying boy next door, she would teach him a lesson, no one would believe him and he wouldn't dare to visit again. She opened the door. Mack stood in the opening.
"Helena, I..."
Tetelo stepped forward and roared like a predator. She grabbed him and held him close to her. His head was close to hers. He was scared stiff and looked into her firelike eyes.
"Hello..boy." she said in a low voice.
She kissed him and threw him into the frontyard. He landed on the grass, two metres from the door. Tetelo kissed her hand and waved at him. She laughed and slammed the door. She walked up the stairs again. It was good too feel flesh again, good to feel fear again she thought. She ignored the stain on the stair and walked into Helena's room and layed down on her bed, later Helena would wake up with a strange sense of guilt, but she didn't know why.
