Part 9

1.12 Sunny's boat, at night, on the water

Seventeen years old and on a boat to...to...the middle of nowhere. Mack watched the black water, the waves attacked the boat. A small window opened and a bottle flew out and landed in the water, the window closed again. Firebrow walked towards Mack,

"Hey."

"Hey."

Firebrow stood next to him.

"Where are we?" Mack asked.

"On a boat." Firebrow replied.

"Come on."

"Okay, we're on lake Pontarchain and we will go through a river and stop in a small place called "St-Francis in the woods."

"You mentioned that place before, but what am I going to do there?"

"Don't know."

"Yes, you do."

"Okay, so I know, the guy before me knew too. But you will know when you find out."

Mack looked at the pounding waves. "So your a...ghostbuster."

"Yes."

"And?"

"And what?"

"Do you trap them with a cage or something?"

"No, there isn't a standard procedure, but an exorcism has a standard procedure, you have to mean what you say and you have to have the talisman."

"A talisman! Can I see it?"

"In time and now isn't the right time." Firebrow stared at the sea, like he saw something or someone, Mack looked, but didn't see anyone.

"Go inside, it's late and we have to get up early tomorrow."

The both of them walked inside a small cabin. For a while light shone out of a window, but then all was dark.

Gedde estate

Helena was asleep, she slept and her mothers bedroom. She lay in the middle of the big bed. She heard a sound and sat up straight in her bed. She lid a candle of the candle-holder. The light shone nervously. Helena grabbed the candle-holder and got out of bed, she heared the sound again. It came from the hall. She slowly opened her door and looked. The landing of the second floor was calm. The sound filled the dark hall below. A burglar?

Helena slowly shuffled on the landing. She stood at the top of the stairs and looked down at the hall, she saw someone familar. It was Mack! He turned around. His eyes were bright red. Helena froze. mack tilted his head a little His eyes glowed. He started to float. Helena's lower jaw started to tremble. She dropped the candle-holder and the candle went out. He floated higher and went towards her. He floated above the stairs, he was just a few metres away. He stopped right in front of her. He looked into her eyes.

"Helena Gedde you have got to let go of the past." he said in Tetelo's voice.

He grabbed her and turned, now she hung a metre above the staircase.

"You must!" he said and let her go. She screamed and fell. She sat up straight in her bed, was it all a dream?

"You must." Tetelo whispered.

1.13 Sunny's boat, St. Francis-in-the-Woods

"Wake up, Basketcase." Sunny said.

Mack opened his eyes and looked at Sunny's face.

"I could say, rise and shine beautiful, but you're not." Sunny said laughing.

"Thanks a lot, baldy." Mack said.

Sunny laughed and left the cabin. Firebrow's bed was empty and Mack found him on deck. The boat lay still in a river, there were woods around it. A small road went into the woods.

"Hello, Mack."

"Hey."

Mack tried to rub the sleep out of his eyes.

"So this is St-...Fred in the woods or something?" Firebrow smiled "St-francis, but you're right, we're where we should be." Sunny whistled "Could the looney's please leave the boat, the captain's got other stuff to do." Firebrow shook Sunny's hand.

"Goodbye, doorknob."

"Goodbye, old git."

Firebrow walked down a plank and stood on solid ground.

"Goodbye, hairy."

"So long, basketcase." Mack carried the case across the plank and stood next to Firebrow. Sunny went into the bridge. The boat slowly departed and a horn was heared, a few birds flew out of nearby trees. Firebrow grabbed a case and together they walked into the woods.

"Do you notice anything unusual about these woods yet?" Firebrow asked.

"Well..." Mack said while he looked around. "It's pretty dark here."

"Right and why is that, do you think?"

"Because of the big trees."

"Yes and because light doesn't dare to shine here."

Mack looked at Firebrow's face if he made a joke, but his face was serious.
