Prologue

"Shakeri! Shakeri ranvee tava!" The wizened man chanted out the ancient words as the pendant slipped through his hands like water. A young boy looked on, learning the ways of this man. The old man held up the heavy necklace.
"Ge’hanas, shakeri!" The pendant was handed to Ge’hanas.
The young boy held it in awe, examining the carvings on the surface. How did the man make this piece of artwork? Now it held power. Power beyond his wildest dreams. Giving a few parting words to Ge’hanas, the older man said, "Never let this go. Now go." Ge’hanas left.
When he returned to the village of A’yet, he was greeted by his older sister, Terani. Exclaiming over the necklace, she fingered it enviously. The pendant was solid gold, with four jewels decorating the sides.
"Where did you get this?" she asked.
"The old man gave it to me. I do not know where he got it. I believe he carved it and said magic words to make it gold."
"Did you hear about the ship?"
"Ship?"
Terani nodded. "It came many days before. I saw it land."
Ge’hanas shrugged. "I did not know, sister. I was with the old man."
"Come. Mamela is waiting for us."
Before they could even start however, a ghost demon stopped them, one of the many in the village at the time.
The man was dressed in strange cloths that covered his entire body. Ge’hanas, on the other hand, was only wearing a plain loin cloth. A strange high collar covered his neck, with lace poking out from the top. The clothes were black, the color of the night. A large hat covered most of his head. He pointed to himself and said, "Martin Ritter." He also pointed to the trinket and said "Give."
Terani looked up at the man, her eyes wide with fear. She poked Ge’hanas, meaning for them to run. The two children started running through the village, screaming for help. The man was right behind them. Suddenly, he pulled out a shooting stick and fired.
The last thing Ge’hanas knew, he was looking at the body of Terani.
When the kid was dead, Martin took the pendant and grasped it firmly in his hand. He had taken this long trip to Indonesia to find the talisman. On his final day there, he had it.
"The Schattenjager talisman," he said aloud. "How does that sound?"
Without waiting for an answer, he turned and went back to the ship.
