"The names Knight, Gabriel Knight."
"Oh, Gabriel, really, how many times do you have to look in the mirror and proclaim it?" That is typical Gracie for you. She's always on my case for one reason for another.
"Hey, there is nothing wrong with admiring our good qualities," I say in a smug voice. I then dart my eyes over to Grace and give her a quick smile.
"Remind me," she harshly says, "to never get drunk around you again!"
"Come on, Gracie, you can't already have regrets can, you? Don't deny the fact that you had fun." Grace is wrapped in covers in a comfy bed in one of the rooms we randomly selected last night. Schloss Ritter is rather large but I'm rather sure Gerde heard us last night. How could she have not heard? A large grin forms on my face as the memories of last night flood back into my mind.
"This shouldn't have happened."
I run my hand through my hair and turn to her "But it did and there is nothing you can do about it now." I walk towards her to plant a small kiss on her cheek but she turns away violently. "Come on Gracie, you don't have to play hard to get, anymore. The truth is already out. I can and I will tell Gerde all the juicy details unless you're down for breakfast in five minutes." That should really get her motivated. I turn the knob of the door and flash her another smile before I head downstairs for breakfast.
"Mission accomplished," I mumble to myself as I enter the dinning room.
Gerde turns her head up from setting the table, "Pardon?" She certainly does look good this morning. I feel like jumping her right then and there but then I remind myself that Grace is due down here in a few minutes. Besides, I doubt she'd have the reaction that I'd like.
"Oh, your cooking sure smells good." I flash her one of my trademark Gabriel Knight smiles.
"Thank you, Gabriel," she replies in a soft voice. "Late night?" Grace then enters the room and gives me an evil glare. She pulls up a chair, sits down and buries her face in her hands. Gerde then leaves to the kitchen to get our meals.
"Gracie, come on it wasn't that bad of a thing." I take the seat right next to hers and stare at her for a few moments. My hand moves to her upper thigh but she brushes it away.
"Gabriel," she sobs, "That was my first time."
"No, really? You seemed pretty damned experienced to me." I pull up her chin with my hand and look deep into her eyes. Her lips meet mine and I begin to get lost in her tenderness.
My eyes flicker open and I see Gerde standing in the doorway with a tray of food in her hands. I give her a quick wink and then concentrate my energy once more on Grace.
I hear a hint of jealousy in Gerde's voice, "Sorry to disturb you two love birds but this food is starting to get cold."
"Oh, sorry," Grace quickly replies. We eat our meal in silence and when we're done Grace heads off to take a small walk around the castle. I offer to help Gerde in the kitchen with the dishes.
Gerde is washing dishes over the sink and I turn her around to face me. I give her a passionate kiss on the mouth and at first she just looks at me in shock. She then gets right into it and we're enjoying it to the fullest when we hear a loud shriek. Grace is looking at us from window outside. She quickly starts running away in a fit of sobs.
"Grace, I can explain," I shout to her and dash to the front door and immediately fling it open. I see her form going down the path towards Rittersburg and I'm quick on her heels. She has obvious determination and the gap between us does not decrease. Grace reaches the prison doors and luckily for her they remain unlocked. When I arrive, I attempt to open the doors but fail miserably. it, she must have moved the bed in to block them.
"Gracie, it. Let me in! You know I love you."
Gabriel, last night meant nothing to you. It's all just a game in your mind."
"Don't make me break down this door to get you. I realize what I just did was a mistake but I know you're the one for me."
"Gabriel, just off!"
"I love you, Grace." Unfortunately I receive no reply. There is no other option but for me to return to the castle so I trudge up the path disappointed with the situation.
Gerde is outside the castle obviously waiting for me, "Gabriel, I hate to say this but I must quit. I just cannot work under these conditions anymore. I'm terribly sorry but I feel this is the right thing to do."
"What? Who is going to run the castle for me?" I can't believe this is happening. Yesterday, everything was under control and now my life is crumbling right before my eyes.
I give Gerde a brief hug and mumble, "I understand." Gerde enters the castle and heads for her room to begin packing. I, on the other hand, decide to break the news to Grace.
Once back in town, I knock on the doors and Grace replies angrily, "Go away! There is nothing more to talk about."
"Gerde just quit and I was wondering if you'd like to permanently live with me? Come on, it would be fun. We'd be partners and live happily ever after. Isn't that what you want?"
"I'd like all that with a man I could actually trust!"
"Please say yes. If you do then this wolf will remain tame forever. Gracie, you've changed my life and you mean the world to me."
I'm shocked to see the doors silently move open. Grace stands there looking so beautiful. How could I have been such a jerk? I immediately run and give her a hug. "Oh Gabriel, why is it so hard to stay angry at you?"
I give her a very heart felt smile and see her eyes glow with such happiness. "Does that mean yes?" She simply kisses me for a brief moment and I grab her hand.
"I love you too and always have. I've just been too shy to express it. Last night was like a dream come true." We walk hand in hand towards the castle and my heart continues to beat extemely fast.
"Grace, I've felt so much passion for you but I've always gotten the impression that you thought you were superior to me."
Finally we reach Schloss Ritter and I pull open the door. Gerde is sitting at her desk putting things in a small box. "Gabriel, you just got a call from France about another case. Here is the number," she says monotonously and hands me a piece of paper.
