This contest has been completed! This page is kept purely for informational purposes. Unofficial GK Fan Fiction Contest : RulesIn an attempt to bring some semblance and order to the huge number of stories that have been posted to the Sierra newsgroups, I have undertaken the job of archiving all fan fiction postings that have been made to Sierra's General message board, St. George's Books, and (more recently) the Gabriel Knight Fan Fiction board. This is to ensure that everyone's effort doesn't disappear into the great "/tmp" directory in the sky... |

This contest is open to anyone who has access to the Sierra message boards. This contest is created by gamers for fellow gamers to further our enjoyment and discussion of the Gabriel Knight series. Your entry can be a whole story, an introduction, a blurp, a conversation, a brief scene or anything you deem to be a suitable "prequel", "sequel" or connecting story line for GK1 and GK2. You can submit as many entries as you wish. In fact, we hope that each of you will submit more than one. And the length of your entry is only limited by your creative energy. We ask, of course, that you abide by the rules in the Sierra Message Board User Handbook when posting your story. There are five categories where your entry will be considered:
Please note that although we asked Jane Jensen to use her name in this award, Ms. Jensen is not involved in the implementation or judging of this contest in any way. We hope that you will all cast your votes for the best entry. A brief explanation of your choice would be appreciated. Your other fellow judges are:
DeadlineAfter huge slippages from the original deadline of mid-August (hoho!) I have decided to announce the winners on Friday 26th September 1997. The voting script that I have implemented for all the fan fiction entries will play a strong part in determining who the winner(s) will be (after compensating for the scandalous cheaters who have been logged attempting to vote multiple times, on multiple days, for the same fan fiction. You know who you are!).
This will be further supplemented by contributions from all the other judges who haven't been murdered in their beds, held hostage, or abducted by aliens! The Prizes!Ah yes! Thanks to the superb resourceful efforts of "an individual who just happens to know Jane", we have arranged for a personally signed copy of Jane Jensen's novel "Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers" to be available as a prize to the winner of the "Ms. Jensen would be proud of you award". May I just take this moment to point out that Sierra is in no way affiliated in this competition whatsoever. It is a purely fan-driven effort, which will be awarded to the fan fiction voted the best by the fans. (Speaking as a collective) We have also arranged a small number of goodies which will be issued to each (uniquely) elected winner of the 5 categories above. These are a couple of T-shirts badged with... "Mask of Eternity" (Sierra's KQ8). Yeah, yeah, I know its not GK branded stuff, but I still think they make pretty cool prizes for an unofficial competition! Many thanks to "Hendley" (go see "The Great Escape" if you don't know what this character did!) for all their help with this! In the interest of fairness ("and goodwill to all... people"), T-Shirts will be allocated strictly on a "one winner - one shirt" basis. In the case of an individual winning more than one category, the prize will be allocated to the next unique (and most-voted) entrant of that category. Unless you have two heads, this shouldn't be a problem! Remember, its not too late to get those creative juices flowing. Don't worry about your literary skills. We're not really here to judge but to laugh, cry, read and reread your stories. Everyone who enters this contest is advised that all entries should be posted to the Gabriel Knight Fan Fiction board. All entries should also entitle their entries explicitly as being "Fan Fiction : [Title]". The purpose of this is to ensure that readers are aware that they are reading material which is not GK canon. |
