New GK Concept Sketch
27th September 1997
There has been a new picture added to the GK3 gallery, which is another concept sketch of Gabriel (I have called it "Gabriel 3").
This image has not yet been included in Sierra's official image gallery. Thanks to
Nico Sels for sending it in.
Nostradamus: Vampires & Witches
26th September 1997
Carl Had this to add regarding current Nostradamus ramblings...
|
I think GK3 will be about either Vampires or Witches plaguing France from Spain. Nostradamus wrote something about France starting war with Spain for committing "sensual enjoyment." Both witches and Vampires commit murders and other black ceremonies for sensual enjoyment!! Also, it says later that all of Spain will be burnt by the French. Vampires are cremated and Witches are burnt at stakes!! That Isis thing will probably be right, though. But I think the whole Nostradamus subject would be more intriguing.
|
It all sounds very interesting, and could be the foundations of a very promising story.
Greeks Bearing Plotlines?
25th September 1997
Phil Colvin offers up an unusal (yet strong) slant to current speculation trends...
|
Last week Spain, now Greece but this time there may be more to back it up...
The information about Isis is very intriguing. Although Isis was very big in Egyption mythology, she somehow appeared in Greek mythology too and was part of a cult/religion which was quite big, until Christianity.
Greece itself has no king, but it only dropped the monarchy in the 1970s after bitter disputes and referendums. The Greek language partially derived from French (especially modern words such as 'gare') and is also a very popular destination for large American detectives and Mediterranean locals alike.
Jane is using an imaginary village, so I think it's pointless with us looking for places other than countries. I don't yet know what real event Jane is working from (I wonder if there has been any stuff with this Isis worshipping in a while) but this is one rumour about a place which has the backing of a suitable great engima and is original for the games.
I'm still, however, not going to discount the phantom clowns. Or invisible elephants.
|
If any country was to be chosen for its rich historical background, Greece would certainly score highly...
BTW, assuming that some bods from Sierra may actually be reading this page, how about including that last remark as an easter egg?
Prophecies of Nostradamus
25th September 1997
I received an interesting mail from KQswst104@aol.com who
offered the following information regarding Nostradamus' role in French affairs (and Nostradamus'
predictions):
|
"A great band and sect of Crusade,
Shall rise up in southern Germany,
Near the river a light-armed company,
Who shall hold such law toward enemies."
"Of Trojan blood a German heart shall be born,
Who shall obtain so high a power,
Who shall chase away a strange Arabic race,
Return to the Church her pristine pre-eminence."
They kinda remind you of the Schattenjagers and Gabe, don't they?
I think it is set in France now, because I found out that there are some members of the french royal family still living, so the "prince" might be a looney who is the real thing but calls himself that when he isn't. Also, he [Nostradamus] lived in France and was friends with the King, after one of his prophecies from a book he wrote, came true.
Also, I found a translation of one of the prophecies of Daniel, a person in the Bible. Nostradamus also mentioned this prophecy:
"The angel who appeared to Daniel in Verse 11-13 is the guardian angel for the nation which leads the Western allies."
This country according to Nostradamus and other ancient prophetic sources is France. This verse is believed to mean that the Western Alliance shall be triumphant and advancing in all fronts after fighting the Muslims and Russians for a period of twenty-one years. And at the turning point of the World War, the archangel Michael shall carry God's Command coming to assist French troops in defeating the Muslim forces, not by human hands but by the natural elements. The role of Saint Michael to battle the Dragon's cohorts at the end times is very prominent.
Also, here's another couple:
"The serpent shall be seen approaching a royal bed,
By one lady, at night dogs shall not bark,
Shall be born in France one Prince so royal,
From heaven sent all princes shall see."
"When one looks upon the great King as his father,
Before he renders his soul completely,
One shall feel the loss of a beloved one,
Present are representatives from US, England, the Church, and earthly
crown"
"The "King" mentioned in the prophecies is Henry, the King of France. It also says that he is the descendant of Charlemagne, a guy who once ruled alot of Europe. He will also rule most of the world, and USA will be his main allie. I guess he will want to start the French monarchy again.

Strong stuff, and quite spooky how Nostradamus' writings can be adapted in today's society (or is that human nature?).
Phaistos Disk - The Portal
25th September 1997
The purveyor of mass information Christine sent me the following. If true, it promises to shake the whole premise of being a shadow hunter...
|
I can't even begin to explain everything at this web site. It has to be checked out.
The idea being that the Phaistos Disk is believed to be the Portal Disk, because it opens a portal to the constellation "Argo". The one on the disk where the boat of Isis is!
It was apparently not only a huge archeological find, but also huge
math, physics, and the occult! The geometry of the disk is believed to be sacred and the key to the universe. It demonstrates Euclidean goemetry 1300 years prior to Euclid!! It is described as the "sacred" science used by Isis-Osiris initiates. They believe it can be used for implosion.
Many attempts over time have been made to create "the star fractal or intergalactic portals". Some by utillizing the landscape.
One in particular is pointed out. It is in the pattern of Gothic Cathedrals around Chartres and Rennes-les Chateaux.
I also found the goddess Isis conected with witchcraft, and alchemy. Her name appears in many poems (spells). Circles and patterns of circles are also big in witchcraft!
|
And thats not all...
|
I think the disk opens a portal that needs to already have the magnetic field. One such place besides the Rennes-le Chateaux is the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. Both space travel and time travel are associated with it's design.
|
Is the world ready for a time-travelling shadow hunter? Whether this idea manifests itself into the game (or not), it does give an interesting "Stargate" type perspective on everything. But would we be ready for such a radical step?
Tangential GK3 Plot Arcs...
23rd September 1997
In the advent of the recently updated official GK3 web site, there was some interesting information regarding the role of the character "Lady Howard". Christine Gallagher-Lein managed to dig up the following based on the aforementioned info:
|
A few days ago Sierra added a new character to the web
site. The woman says something about "Womb of Isis" and "Arc of Nut". I just had to try, and I hit the jack-pot!
Here is my continuation of the previous speculation by Lynne Vettel:
"Isis" is of course an Egyptian god. It is believed that from her womb came creation.
The article "The Serpent in Mythology" goes on to talk about abduction, drinking of blood, blood reeking rites of Dionyses, snakes, secret worship temples, and the dragon seeking to devour Isis's child.
Nut is also an Egyptian god, something to do with the god of the morning so maybe the arc is either the horizon, or the path of the sun. I didn't find much on Nut, but...
Isis led me to the "Phaistos Disk and Decipherment:Spiritual Beliefs in Bronze Age Crete and Egypt"
The Phaistos Disk is quite an archeological find. Important to the occult too!! It is supposed to be from about 1500 BCE! It is still undeciphered. There is a picture of the disk at the previous site.
What I found very interesting is that it was discovered in 1908!!!
Although it has not been deciphered, this article talks about "the
curious hair style of the man [in one of the pictographs] plays a
particular role" hmmm.......Gabe in ancient Egypt?
Also the disk's origin is from Crete during the Minoan civilization, who's religion has been a mystery.
The disk has stars marked out on it. The Argo constellation, and in the Argo is the boat of Isis. Check out the picture - it reminds me of the background to the first shot we got of GK3!
Another web site that popped up when I searched for Isis and Womb was
none other than our old friend, the Prieure du Sion!
What could ancient Egyptian gods have to do with this secret society??
Well back at this site I found some information on the members and
positions of special importance. One is the Nautonnier which had 1
member, and "The office of Nautonnier or navigaton, is symbolized by the boat of Isis".
The boat of Isis:
"...was postioned in the constellation of Argo. Specifically, in Egypt this constellation was named Sothis or Soth-Isis, the Star of Isis. Furthermore, in the Egyptian legends this vessel represented the female organ of generation." (David Wood, Genisis)
The womb!
I am thinking the Prieure du Sion is our secret society, and when our new character is talking about the "Womb of Isis", she is refering to the Navigator of the Prieure du Sion!
|
An exceptionally impressive piece of work, as I am sure everyone will agree. If even just a fraction of all this proves to be anywhere near the mark, it gives a fairly clear idea of the kind of depth Jane Jensen and Team are putting into the storyline for GK3. Just what are they playing at, making history-rich storylines like this? Tut-tut...
"Vive Le France" or "Viva Espania"?
21st September 1997
I'm sure that the title is spelt incorrectly. ANYWAY, Phil Colvin had this to say:
|
Spain is a very realistic possibility for all the reasons in the
previous speculation. The French writing can be accounted for this way
because some towns near the edge of the French border do take French as a main language (i.e. all their road signs are written in French).
It would also explain Mosely's presence in the area (going for the sun rather than the mystery).
No idea about the enigma (my Spanish history isn't very good) but it's
another fine place rumour to add to the pile. What we really need now is
somebody to bring forth a pretty solid place argument with an engima
side to match as well.
Any offers?
|
Well? Anyone?
How French Is Spain?
20th September 1997
Ghoul Kid emailed some interesting points of order to give a different look on current speculation:
|
I don't think it will have anything to do with france, because it involves a prince, and unless Jane Jensen is being historically accurate, it can't take place there. This might sound dumb, but it might be Spain.
That one character [Emilio] lookes spanish, Spain has a royal family, the language is VERY similar to french, since they're both latin based, and the buildings in the trailer look adobe to me (a style used by the Spanish)
|
Since my knowledge of Spain's language and culture is a little on the "Huh?" level, I leave this snippet to be openly accepted or rejected by you learned masses out there!.
Official GK3 Site - Updated
19th September 1997
For those who haven't noticed/visited Sierra's official GK3 site recently, there have been a few additions of late:
- An updated progress section, gives some information about what the new 3D graphics engine can/can't allow when creating the game characters.
- Some new additions to the images section, including part of the GK3 storyboard. I would love to see an AVI of that sequence in motion!
- A new game character profile for "Lady Howard", with brilliant AVI clip of her walking.
- Another team member biography, explaining some of the pitfalls he has discovered when transferring an existing 2D character to the third dimension.
- Mosely is back to...er..."normal" (for want of a better word! I guess we will be able to see him "waddle" in all his 3D glory!).
|
I don't think I have missed anything out (which I haven't already mentioned on this page). Its all definitely worth checking out.
Sierra Needs Your Help!
18th September 1997
For anyone who is interested, and has not yet subscribed onto Sierra's GK email list (and if not, why not?):
|
Time to fire up those creativity synapses and win yourself 15 minutes of fame, or possibly something even cooler!
This month will see the premier issue of the Gabriel Knight Fan Club's official e-mail newsletter. And since this is going to be YOUR newsletter, we want YOU to help us create it! Here's what we need:
A NAME
The newsletter needs a totally hip name, one which says something about the Gabriel Knight games, as well as about the fan community. What would you name a newsletter for your favorite game series?? Please submit your best suggestion, and we're going to pick the coolest one of all to be the official name for our monthly publication.
What do you get if yours is the coolest? What else? A free copy of Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned, just as soon as the game is released. PLUS, we're ponying up an autographed copy of Jane's book, Sins of the Fathers, for our winner! Sound cool? Then help us name our newsletter!
QUESTIONS
The upcoming first issue of the as-yet-unnamed newsletter will start with an exclusive interview of Jane Jensen! But this isn't just ANY interview... it's YOUR interview! Would you like to see your name appear in the newsletter? And would you like to see your question answered by Jane? Then just think of what sort of question you would like to ask her, and let us know!
The ten most intriguing questions will be compiled into an interview, and we'll pose those questions to our leading lady. The full text of the interview will be published in the first issue of the newsletter, and the names of the interviewers will appear next to their questions.
All you have to do to submit either a question or a newsletter name is just reply to this message BEFORE MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22. Don't forget to include your full name, or we won't know who to credit!
Good luck to all, and THANK YOU in advance for your help!
- CindyV, Sierra On-Line

A competition, and the opportunity to ask Ms. Jensen herself all those weird and peculiar questions you've been itching to get answered. If you want to reply, the return address to use is gabriel.knight@sierra.com
Germany Revisited...
6th September 1997
Carl thinks he may have a lead which could bring Gabriel stomping over familiar ground:
|
My guess is that the game will be in Germany and have something to do with the Nibelungenlied. It's a poem of German orient and the author is unknown.
The reason I think this is because it is connected to both of the Gabriel Knight stories. Wagner made several musicals about it in his lifetime, and it is about the norse god, sometimes thought of as a dragon. I'm still trying to find out where the poem was found, so if anyone sees anything, tell me!
|
An interesting idea, but it is quite a departure from everything else we know about what the story might contain. It will be interesting to see if this idea can be extended in any way...
More Nostradamus...
6th September 1997
Phil Colvin has quite a bit more to say about this promising subject matter:
|
That stuff about Nostradamus is very interesting.
I know he was born in Saint-Remys in southern France (yes, near some
lovely rocky mountains for the charming scenery), and he was an advisor
to the French Royals.
Could this be the royal connection, the former French royalty? The
'prince' maybe some nut who is a descended of the old royal family and
is peeved that they no longer have a monarchy. The Ludwig II storyline
came out of a line that stopped. On a less likely note, the Prince could
actually be a member of that royal line who is still alive because he is
a vampire (which I doubt, but it's as likely as any other vampire
connection)
He was also responsible for curing many victims of the plague and was
pronounced as 'miraculous.
Could Nostrodamus be the Blood of the Sacred and the victims, Blood of the Damned. Perhaps his spirit will have to save someone who is damned etc. etc.
It's too early to speculate, but this is the best rumour I've seen of
the lot so far (to hell with that stupid name people think they saw in
the video! Who's to say that wasn't there to fool the one person who
actually watched it frame by frame?) [Indeed, but it was pretty convincing to me! - Ray]
I also wouldn't trust the early sketches and paintings, I've seen many
an imaginative artist add his own trademarks for the hell of it. I doubt
Sierra would be that obvious.
Well heck, we're probably all wrong anyway.
Just our luck if Jane does something about phantom clowns.
|
"GK4 - Cometh the Phantom" - Hmm, does have a nice ring to it... . Its all to easy to overlook the obvious, and see things when there really is nothing left to see. Still, the inquisitive among us have to wonder, and keep every one else on their toes!
Nostradamus Speculation
3rd September 1997
An interesting proposal from Wrath,
who puts forth an idea I haven't read about yet:
|
"There was this guy in the way-back-when called Nostradamus, he was
supposedly a prophet who prophecized the 2nd World War, the French
Rebellion AND the Loudes virgin incident. He also studied astrology
which may be the thing encoded into the graphic!"
|
An interesting subject matter, and one that would make a strong subject matter in a GK3 story.
